Every year Safeway Waterfront Blues holds a food drive in conjunction with the Oregon Food Bank. According to this Skanner News video interview with Jean Kempe Ware of the Oregon Food Bank, this is a record-breaking year with the amount of emergency food needs in Oregon. Fortunately the food bank has many volunteers helping to collect and organize the food donations. Check out the video to see footage of the new temperature-controlled facilities and the volunteers in action.
A while back did a I did a bit of gushing over the Trinity Hip Hop festival, a showcase of hip hop artists and academics from around the world that went down at Trinity College back in March. Vids from the event are up now over on the Tube. judging from these freestyle sets, the art of MCing is alive and well, no matter the language.
Almost ranking with the music (for me at least), Coachella's various art installations were among the highest highlights of this year's festival. It was amazing for me to see what appeared to be random metal sculptures during the day transform into electric, lively art at night. Here are some short videos I made of some of my favorite pieces.

Last week the folks over at South by Southwest pulled the covers off their new Youtube channel and it's already been getting massive fan viewage. The channel's pretty packed with interviews, film trailers and features from year's past and I'm sure they'll be updating on a steady schedule throughout the fest.
Thao Nguyen put on a brilliant show on Day 3 of Noise Pop. Karla interviewed her right after her performance at the Swedish American Music Hall in San Francisco.
