Considering how day 1 of Toronto's Virgin Festival seemed to go off relatively smoothly, it's only appropriate that the second day have a speedbump or two, and the incident during Oasis' headlining set surely gave everyone at the festival a story to write home about.  The world-renowed Britpop group was in the middle of playing one of its hits, "Morning Glory," when a previously unidentified male ran out suddenly from behind the band and violently shoved guitarist Noel Gallagher forward onto his monitor.  The man proceeded towards singer Liam Gallagher, who began to fight back.  The altercation was intercepted by security personell, who promptly wisked away the assailant.

The band was shepherded offstage, much to the dismay of the audience, who suspected the cancellation of the remainder of the set.  As it turned out, a spokesman took the mic and assured the crowd that the performance would commence shortly, and fifteen minutes later, Oasis reentered and plowed through the rest of the show to close the festival.  The manner in which this incident was handled reinforced the statement that Oasis can be depended on to give the people what they want, even if it entails their guitarist playing half of a performance with a supposedly fractured rib and ligament damage. A similar incident took place during a show about fourteen years ago, so the Gallagher brothers and the rest of the band had been acquainted to a certain extent with on-stage assault.

Noel was taken immediately afterwards to a Toronto hospital, where he still remains.  Their two final North American shows are scheduled to take place in London, ON and New York City.  The concerts haven't yet been cancelled, but the band recommends that fans check the website for further developments.  Gallagher's condition has not yet been reported, nor has the means by which the assailant, 47-year-old Daniel Sullivan, avoided security and made his way onto the stage.  He has been taken into custody and faces assault charges.

It's a sure thing that the 25,000 attendees of VFest got more than they paid for.  And Oasis has always been, and still is, excellent at entertaining the masses, be it intentional or not.
