Of all major American festivals (those fests in the U.S. with an economic impact of roughly $10 million or more) Savannah may be the hardest to pigeonhole; it is one of the few festivals in America that completely deserves to call itself just "Music Festival," without any statement of genre in its title. In its seventh year, the festival's organizers offer perfomances by artists ranging from [the Beaux Arts Trio to the Derek Trucks Band 2009], though the diversity of the lineup needs to be heard to be believed. Activities outside of the festival's core programming, which include huge in-house and in-the field musical education program and a thematically-evolving American traditional musics competition, effectively elevate it to the international stage, alongside the likes of the U.K.'s Glastonbury Performing Arts Festival, Switzerland's Montreux Jazz Festival and Italy's Festival della canzone italiana.
