"With so many blockbuster festivals gouging their attendees out of absolutely obscene sums of money, only to confine them in uncomfortable, tight spaces and skimp on basic necessities, our goal is to do the right thing: That is, to create a reasonably priced summer music festival that provides an overwhelmingly positive, comfortable and fun festival experience for both attendees and musicians."—Description by festival

The full outlines of Pitchfork 2010 are beginning to shape up with a dozen new names added to the 11 already named. The most prominent additions are Toronto indie rockers Broken Social Scene; Panda Bear, the solo project by Animal Collective member Noah Lennox; veteran punk blues band The Jon Spencer Blues Explosion; and underground hip-hop artist El-P.

Also newly named were Titus Andronicus, Bear in Heaven, The Smith Westerns, Dàm-Funk, Girls, CAVE and Allá. They join previously announced Pavement, Modest Mouse, LCD Soundsystem, St. Vincent and more for the influential Chicago indie festival, which runs July 16-18 in the city's Union Park.

In a sure sign of vitality for the 2010 festival market, Pitchfork Music Festival has sold out of three-day passes in less than a week after going on sale, despite having only nine artists so far named to the lineup. Single-day passes remain available for the high-profile indie-rock festival, which takes place July 16-18 in Chicago's Union Park. Singles are priced at $40, so you can still see the entire festival for $120 ($30 more than you would have paid for an all-festival pass), but you are advised to act quickly to avoid a later scramble for tickets in the secondary market.

The lineup so far features a reunited Pavement and Modest Mouse as two of the headliners. Other announced acts so far are LCD Soundsystem, Raekwon, St. Vincent, Lightning Bolt, Cass McCombs, Sleigh Bells and Here We Go Magic. Visit our Pitchfork page to preview all the artists, and go to the festival website for complete information.
