"The Tayberry Jam/Reggae On The Mountain is an annual benefit concert for Cougar Mountain Farm. We are trying to conserve our farm's forest lands and promote sustainability, permaculture, and organic agriculture. We have tried to create a beautiful event that will bring unity to the community. Noah says, "We spotlight local musicians and show a respect for diversity by having a concert with bluegrass, reggae, fire dancing and a little rock and roll." "—Description by festival
The defacto home festival for the progressive bluegrass movement, TBF is that and much more as it enters its 37th season. Newgrass all-stars Sam Bush, Bela Fleck, Jerry Douglas and others are regulars, but also expect a solid array of jamgrass, folk, alt-country and roots rock. There are few more spectacular festival locations, set in a box canyon with high peaks on four sides. The camping scene is legendary, with elaborate group camps, but there is ample condo-style accommodations as well. Unless you have kids along (or you value sleep more than music), don't miss the Nightgrass shows at the Sheridan Opera House and other venues in town.—Description by Festival Preview
This festival may have a bit of an imbalance between how much blues and how many brews it deals out to fans over its three days. But although this imbalance quantitatively favors the brews, when the still-hefty amount of blues is as exceptional as it is at Telluride, is it really something to worry about? We think not Well into its second decade, the festival's organizers have taken considerable steps to include top-tier funk, soul, and rock performers in the programming for 2008 as well, while looking to the grassroots for new talent with a soloist competition taking place on the 13th. And with a mountain paradise of a town for fans party in between the daytime no matter how the music turns out, it's no wonder that that small town, Telluride, Colorado, has a festival that's practically as huge as the bluegrass festival that came before it.
"Since 1977 Telluride's majestic perch - high in the spectacular San Juan Mountains in Southwestern Colorado -- has been the site of an annual cultural event produced by the Telluride Society for Jazz combining the finest of nature and art that ranks among the world's most memorable music festivals. The intimate format and abundant opportunities to enjoy spectacular alpine recreational activities complement the superb music presented each year at the Telluride Jazz Celebration (TJC). Combining performances on outdoor stages during the day with theater and club shows at night, the TJC offers the best of both worlds and with its new dates in June, it has become even more festive as it coincides with the 25th annual edition of the colorful Telluride Balloon Rally."—Description by festival
